Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its Governance in Healthcare
Learn the applications of AI in healthcare and how to lead safe and responsible implementation.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already embedded in healthcare, influencing diagnosis, decision-making, workflows and patient safety. This course provides a practical, governance-focused introduction to AI in healthcare, helping participants understand not just what AI can do, but how it must be safely implemented and overseen.
You will explore the fundamentals of AI, including machine learning and generative AI, and examine how these technologies are currently used across clinical, operational, and administrative settings. The course emphasises that AI augments clinical judgement rather than replaces it and highlights the importance of human oversight in all applications.
A central focus of the session is governance. Participants will examine approval processes, credentialing, patient consent, privacy and data management, adverse event reporting, and regulatory frameworks. You will gain insight into key risks such as bias, automation error, and model drift, and learn how these are managed within clinical governance systems.
Led by healthcare consultant and strategist Pieter Walker, this session translates complex concepts into practical realities. With experience supporting over 200 hospitals globally, Pieter will guide participants through how organisations can integrate AI responsibly, balancing innovation with safety, accountability, and trust.
Designed for clinical leaders, governance professionals, and healthcare decision-makers, this session equips you with the tools and confidence to evaluate AI, identify risks, and lead its implementation within your organisation.
This is a 3‑hour training session. We acknowledge attendance and time spent in learning which may be used to apply for CPD points from your professional registration body.
